A beautiful blend of Asian cultures, Malaysia is home to many ethnic groups, including Hindu and Muslim Indians, the indigenous people of Borneo, Muslim Malays, various aboriginal groups, Dayak tribes, and a variety of religious Chinese. Rather than a melting pot, Malaysia is a land of distinctly diverse languages and cultural practices. Such rich diversity is reflected in numerous festivals and celebrations that are highlighted with ethnic music, dance, and cuisine.
Since the 14th century, Islam has been Malaysia’s principle religion, yet the country is also comprised of Christian and Hindu groups. This religious diversity is clearly seen in Malaysia’s interesting and unique display of mosques, temples and churches that thrive alongside each other. Clearly, Malaysia attracts travelers who seek a truly multicultural and dynamic experience.

This was my first Arkanum trip, and by far the best for me. Not only was this location unique and relaxing (compared to the other rigorous trips) but it was also a great trip to meet and bond with the Arkanum teens and mentors, as a new member. Ws started the trip in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, with a very modern and developed atmosphere, but my favorite part of the trip was the journey to Langkawi. Langkawi is an island, about an hour flying from Kuala Lumpur, where the lifestyle and culture is very laid back and relaxed, which I know a lot of us enjoyed and needed. This trip was an unforgetable experience, and I am very thankful that I had this opportunity.
This was my first trip with Arkanum, and is the reason why I continue going on them. First of all, the locations in Malaysia, my favorite was Kuala Lumpur, were so beautiful and peaceful. Secondly, the daily activities were so much fun. I got to go parasailing, meet monkeys, drive a jet ski, and so much more. Finally, the food was so good. I was very happy going on this trip because I got to try and experience so many new things. I absolutely loved it.
Malaysia is a MUST to visit. The culture there is so rich and you will never know it until you go for yourself. This was Arkanum's second international trip and I am so glad I was apart of it. The group was phenomenal and everyone was so helpful. I had the privilege to participate in all of the activities that Beeko set up for us and I will never forget my favorite one which was paragliding. I got to paraglide over the most crystal clear beach which was such a freighting yet beautiful experience.
Even now, two years later, those 2 weeks are still embedded in my memory. I can’t even begin to explain how many new friends I made in such a short period of time. The sheer number of fun activities and adventures we went on were enough to last a lifetime! One of the best things about the entire experience was how everything we saw and experienced was always linked back to Islam. Even though I’ve only been on one Arkanum trip so far, if I was ever given the opportunity to travel with them again, without of a shadow of a doubt... I’d accept
Definitely the most exotic out of all the Ark trips. It was also my first which gave me the opportunity to get to know my fellow brothers and sisters more and more.
